  1. Most of the above herbs are readily available as tea (you may need to check a health/natural food store).

You can either make a rinse out of a tea, to use as part of your regular washing routine (I rinse last thing, and don’t wash it out: I use chamomile to bring out my highlights and horsetail for strength). You can also mix any of the above into a base of yogurt and egg for a great deep conditioning pre-poo treatment. Leave on anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour (or longer). Any time you use egg as a conditioner, rinse it out with lukewarm water. If the egg cooks, it’s a mess to get out (not impossible, just unpleasant!)

Indian gooseberry goes by the name “amla” in Middle Eastern grocery stores. It comes as a powder that is mixed with water. It makes a great facial scrub, too. Amla will darken hair slightly (but when used as a scrub, it’s not on the skin long enough to darken). Amla is very high in vitamin C.

Rosemary will also darken hair a little.

Other great pre-poo conditioners are avocado and banana. Some people like oils (olive, avocado, hemp seed, grape seed, etc.)

What you use on your hair will largely depend on what kind of hair you have, and what it needs. And remember, what you put into your body is twice as important as what you put on it. Lots of water and a healthy diet (or a good supplement) contribute hugely to beautiful hair.

    Good luck!
